Standing in the remote valley of Mallerstang, Pendragon Castle, built in the 12th Century, is a thing of myth and legend.  Uther Pendragon reputably built the original castle in the 5th century on the site of an old Roman signalling post. Leading the Cymric people he fought against the Saxons in the West of Britain until they lay siege to the castle and killed Uther and his followers by poisoning the well. But, with the help of Merlin, he had already given rise to Britain’s greatest legend, King Arthur.

Alone in Mallerstang, snow falling, dusk setting in, the old legends feel close at hand.

Shot with the Sigma DP1 Merrill.
