The Old School Muker is pleased as punch to be able to showcase the dramatic skyscapes of Sheryl Roberts. The Greatest Lightshow, Sheryl Roberts | The Old School Muker Painted in acrylic and oil, these atmospheric images convey the drama above as the weather sweeps in over Buttertubs Pass and down into Swaledale. Alongside the work of Adrian Wood and Michael Kusz, Nigel’s work makes the Old Sch

James Wheeler –

James Wheeler’s paintings have been part of the Old School since the days before we took over the gallery back in April 2017 and we’re pleased that the association continues and grows stronger over the months and years. Moor Entrance, James Wheeler | The Old School Muker Of all our artists it is Jame’s work that I’m reminded as I make my way off Shunner Fell at dusk or walk along Occupation Lane on one of those atmospheric days Upper-Swaledale throws at you from time to time;

Ivelet Bridge Winter, Sue Nichol

Back in the winter, soon after Christmas, I donned my new wellies and took a photo of Ivelet Bridge from the middle of the Swale. As soon I’d taken it I knew it was a scene that would benefit from Sue’s unique interpretation, and was delighted when she agreed. Ivelet Bridge Detail | Sue Nichol Ivelet Bridge Detail | Sue Nichol The result is now hanging in our gallery, one mile up the road from the the bridge, and we simply love it. #Art #YorkshireDales

Swallows Soar, Adrian Wood

Adrian’s first swallows sculpture soon flew the nest, and left a hole in the sky. Luckily more swallows soon arrived and our sky is once again full. #Art #Blacksmith #Ironwork #Sculpture

Love Nest, a new sculpture by Michael Kusz

Reeth based artist Michael Kusz has been synonymous with the Old School for many years; his bats hang from the rafters; Doug! and the Rook Climber watch the sparrows, chaffinches and siskins, as they squabble over sunflower seeds; his witch rotates around its cauldron, driven by the four winds; his dragons guard our lawn, and Rambo the sheep sits proudly on The Old School roof, gazing out over the hills … Doug! | Michael Kusz | The Old School Muker Witches Cauldron | Michael

Barn With Tin Roof on the Move

Rebecca Vincent Etchings, A Print Makers Art.

A few months ago we introduced Rebecca’s prints into the gallery and the reaction from our customers has been wonderful. Now we have three original etchings on display: Silver Birch Autumn Gold (above and detail below), to me reminiscent of Gustav Klimt, Country Reflections and Safely Gathered in. Jill Ray’s Bright Woods Autumn Writ Large

Sometimes you just unwrap a painting and have to stand back and admire!  I’d seen the standard size, and it’s wonderful, but writ large, well, it just adds another dimension … Bright Woods, Light of Autumn | Jill Ray Bright Woods, Light of Autumn Detail | Jill Ray … and up close you can see the individual shapes, colours, shades and layers and the care and attention to detail that makes Jill’s work shine out. We now have the full Bright Woods collection on display in our Art

Adrian Wood, Artist Blacksmith, Exhibition Sketches

Back in 2017 we were pleased to discover the work of Adrian Wood and introduce it into the gallery … and visiting Adrian’s forge we got to see some of his larger sculptural work, altogether on a different scale. Wind on to 2018 and this summer we’re looking forward to hosting some of Adrian’s larger sculptures in the Old School Garden. If Adrian’s sketches are anything to go by, with themes of swifts and wild flowers synonymous with Swaledale summers, our garden will be home
